3 Phase Transformers
Used to set voltages in all 3 phase
applications where a 3 phase power supply exists.
3 Phase Converters
Convert single phase to 3 phase power when 3 phase is most desirable.
Medical Isolation Transformers
Necessary for any hospital and medical
equipment covered by state and federal safety and performance regulations.
Isolation Transformers
Separates the incoming power from that
which finally runs the equipment. Protects against unwanted characteristics
generated in the use of power within an area.
Buck Boost Transformers
Often used for low voltage applications
and raising voltage for 230V motors or 120V lighting systems;
designed to reduce (buck) or
raise (boost) line voltage from 5% to 20%.
Custom Transformers
Specific needs can be filled by custom
building a transformer to the requirements of the customer.
Step Down Transformers
Adjust voltage from high voltage
transmission lines or to correct local lines for chronically high voltage
conditions.
Step Up Transformers
Adjust voltage for transmission at higher
voltages or to correct local lines for chronically low voltages.
AC Line Reactors
Adjust, block or otherwise handle
unwanted power characteristics often generated during normal use of power in
an area.
Acme Transformers
A reliable leading American transformer
distributing company.
Hammond Transformers
Originated as a family -owned and run
company and is now a nation-wide distributor!
Jefferson Transformers
In business over 93 years; supplying a
diverse selection of products to an equally diverse clientele. |
PURPOSE AND APPLICATIONS
OF
3 PHASE
CONVERTERS
3 Phase
Converters
are used to supply balanced power to motors and equipment specifically
designed to run in a 3 phase environment. Such applications might included
computers, 3 phase motors, voltage sensitive 3 phase CNC mills, pumps,
welders, ovens, radio & television equipment, etc.
These
3 Phase Converters convert the power from one phase type to another. An
incoming line is usually single phase, but many larger electric motors are
designed to run with a 3 phase design where power is delivered to three
different evenly-spaced field electro-magnets that more evenly distribute
the “push” to the armature. Such motors will be smoother running,
longer-lasting, cooler running and generally more able to deliver efficient
power to the job at hand.
Special
attention is necessary to choose the correct hardware for the job. A 3
Phase Converter will not work if it is too small; use one that is
larger than anticipated to be safe. Go here for a handy
converter sizing guide.
A prime
consideration in using a 3 Phase Converter is the availability and
time necessary to have 3 phase current supplied by the power company. Often
3 phase is not even available in some locations and when it is the cost can
be significantly higher than single phase. It may take weeks, or even
months, to get the 3 phase service installed. If you need this service right
away it makes using 3 Phase Converters necessary, practical and
cost-effective.
3 Phase
Converters provide reliable, balanced and efficient 3 phase power.
Other solutions can be harmful to equipment and not nearly as efficient.
(See special comparison notes on
Static Phase
Converters.) Avoid costly decisions that put your motors and
equipment at risk and will cost more over a long period of time due to the
fact that these other solutions often have parts that need replacing on a
much shorter term basis.
